Dr. Chalmers's areas of teaching have varied over the years, with some examples given below
Dr. Chalmers continues to find teaching economics (when he can) a satisfying undertaking, although he remains sceptical of the claims of those who rely on free market dogma as a substitute for scientific thought - hence his preferance for a political economy approach, trying to take into account the cultural, political and social reality of the countries under study. He is a supporter of the real-world economics network and their real-world economics review.
Today however, the majority of his current teaching has followed his research interests which are varied and involve the areas below.
Areas of teaching to which he contributes:
- Media Ethics
- Scotland, the Media and National Identity
- Journalism in Context
- Media Industries
- Research Methods
